Young Professionals is a challenging programme which offers ambitious and high-achieving students an insight into different future career paths.
Students receive both theoretical and practical tuition in one of six possible professions:
– Architecture
– Business & Enterprise
– Digital Marketing & Communications
– Engineering
– Medicine
– Software Development

– Students with at least an intermediate level of English looking to improve their ability via a challenging context
– Students looking for an insight into future career paths in an English-speaking environment
– Students looking to gain a deeper understanding into the theory and practice behind a specific career path
– Students looking for a more «hands-on» an applied learning experience

  • Where: at d’Overbroeck’s College, Oxford ( 1h15 from Heathrow airport;  2h. from Gatwick airport)
  • Age range:  13 – 16
  • Minimum Language level: B1- lower intermediate
  • Dates: Tuesday 5 July – Tuesday 9 August
  • Residential accommodation full – board
  • Mix of single, twin and triple rooms. Separate male & female accommodation
  • A Centre Manager, Activity Manager and Director of Studies are available for all students to approach with any problems. Counsellors are more than just teachers; they provide a high level of care and guidance for all students. All staff are background checked.

Programa:

  • 25 hours of tuition per week
  • Academic hours consist of the following per week:
  • 9 hours subject theory ( classroom-based in the mornings )
  • 6 hours subject practicals* ( workshop-based teaching in the afternoons )
  • 7 hours group-project work** ( subject-based )
  • 3 hours elective workshops

 

Note*: Subjects are most enjoyed when students have the opportunity to get out of their chairs and experience their chosen areas first-hand.
These morning and afternoon periods will allow students to truly understand their selected subjects, whether if be in the laboratory (medicine), building structures (engineering), pitching mock-business plans (business & enterprise) or developing a video game (software development).
Note**: Group-Project is completed over 2 weeks, with presentations on the second-to-last night.

 

  • Maximum classes of 11: students receive a combination of classroom theory-based teaching, as well as practical sessions
  • 2 full-day weekly excursions, one of them is the ‘Study-in-Action’ excursion, to a destination related to their chosen career

  • Minimum staff-student ratio of 1:7 –  There is always a trained first aider on-site, and students are supervised 24 hours a day

Young Architects
Architecture

The Architecture steam of Young Professionals gives students the opportunity to discover the principles and methods of architectural design. Both interior and exterior development form the building blocks of the programme including understanding of the structural aspects and components of architectural design, and the relations between architecture and engineering as a profession. Ideal for students interested in working in the architectural world of design.  

Young Executives
Business & Enterprise

By the end of the course, students should be able to evaluate business behaviour from the perspective of a range of stakeholders including owner, shareholder, manager, employee, customer, supplier, lender and government.
It is aimed for students who want to get a head start in the business world and develop their understanding of how success is built within the world of work.

Young Creatives
Digital Marketing & Communications

Ideal for students interested in working in the digital world, or pursuing a career in Marketing. 
The Digital Marketing & Communications stream of Young Professionals aims to introduce students to a career in the digital marketing industry. Through a combination of theory lessons and practical workshops, students develop a critical understanding of marketing and its relationship with media, and learn how to effectively communicate with consumers across a digital platform.

Young Engineers
Engineering

Students will gain a better understanding of the engineering industry from a commercial and individual engineer’s point of view, as well as be able to apply their knowledge of its practical and technological aspects, through project based practical study of engineering design and production.
It is aimed for students interested in pursing a career in engineering including different types of engineering such as mechanical, electronic and civil. Students interested in building design and construction.

Young Medics
Medicine

Through classroom tuition and laboratory work, relevant to human biology and medicine, the syllabus is designed to grow student confidence and knowledge in medical studies.
It is aimed for students interested in pursing a career in medicine or a related field such as pharmacy, or have a general interest in medicine and medical biology

Young Computer Programmers
Software Development

Young Professionals UK’s Computer Programming stream teaches students how to solve problems efficiently, think algorithmically, and learn how to develop a programming project. It is suitable for both beginner and intermediate computer programmers. Ideal for students interested in pursuing a career in the technology industry.
